If you are feeling stuck in your development as a player, recording yourself playing is a great way to get a different perspective on your game. It can also be helpful to have a friend look at your game(s) and ask them for feedback on patterns that they see.
Pick one aspect of your play and watch the game specifically for that one thing. Keep a tally of how many times you execute well and how many times your play is ...sub-optimal for that one thing. Focus on that same facet of the game for the next month and then repeat the process. Record yourself again and compare the numbers.
Some things to look for in video analysis include:
- Court positioning
- Movement at the net
- Serve placement
- Return placement
- Transitioning to the net
- Soft game
- Volleys
- Groundstrokes

No matter how long you have been playing pickleball, there are things you do on the court that you probably don't realize you are doing, but that you may be able to recognize by watching yourself.
Still stuck? Reach out to your friendly neighborhood pickleball coach for help! Send your instructor a link to the video(s) and ask them to use it as they plan your lesson.
Thanks for stopping by!
